The Enrollment Process

Incoming 9th grade students:

Global Impact STEM Academy will begin taking applications for the 2016-2017 school year on December 3, 2015.  The initial deadline for applications will be March 1st, 2016.  If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the incoming target class size, a lottery will be held to determine who is accepted.  If we have not met our target class size by March 1st, Global Impact will continue to consider applications and students will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Enrollment will continue until the target has been met.  Students who apply after the target has been met or who did not make it in after the lottery will be alternates as seats become available.

Effective Date: 2007 HB 119 06-30-2007

Admissions

Prospective students must submit written applications or fill out an application online. Every student will go through a personal interview during which there will be a review of the applicant’s most recent academic and attendance records to insure that Global Impact is an appropriate potential option and educational placement. Additional writing samples may be required during the application process.

Throughout this process, students and staff will work together in developing  general academic and career plans that will help guide the students’ individual and group educational experiences at Global Impact.

Due to the nature and rigor of the academic content to be delivered, students will need to have a love of learning with a strong interest in science. It is highly recommended that students have solid attendance records with very few absences. Students should also be performing or have the ability to perform at or above grade level in math and literacy skills.

Global Impact STEM Academy lottery process for enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year (if applicable):

In Global Impact’s effort to maintain a desired culture and climate that promotes adequate class and school size it is the board’s intent to keep grade levels at approximately 100 students. Global Impact intends to accept 110 students each year, with the extra 10 students to account for foreseeable attrition. To accomplish this, Global Impact will conduct a lottery if applications received during the period of December 3rd through the end of the day on March 1st exceed that of 110 for its incoming freshman class. After submitting an application and sitting through an interview with a Global Impact staff member and parent, students will be eligible for the lottery to be held on March 17th. Siblings of current students and children of Global Impact staff members will receive preferred consideration for available spots. The lottery will be vetted and certified by an outside accounting firm to ensure of a fair and equitable process. The night of the lottery, all eligible applicants will be assigned a number. The first available spots will go to those preferred sibling and staff member students. The remainder of the spots will be randomly drawn. All unique numbers associated with each student will be drawn. Numbers drawn after the desired 110 students have been selected will be alternates and contacted to fill those spots if selected students withdraw and spots become available.

For spots in grade levels other than incoming freshman:

In grades 10 & 11, applications will be considered on a first come first serve basis of when they were received starting December 3rd. There are currently no spots available in these grades and all applications will be considered alternates as seats become available due to withdraws.
