Dream Home Design

Goal: The goal of this project is to develop career-technical skills, enhance and build on student creativity and design principles, and allow students to practice and implement skills they are developing in Agriculture, Mathematics, and more.

Description: During the course of this unit, students were able to explore the worlds of architecture, construction, and interior design as they created their dream homes from the ground up. Students began by looking for an ideal location for their dream home, ranging from Springfield to Tennessee to Los Angeles. With the costs of land and certain homes in mind, students drew inspiration and began to design and sketch various levels of detailed plans- a bubble sketch, rough sketch, blueprint, 3D rendering, to building a scaled model at the culmination of the unit. In the process, students learned to practice measuring skills, being able to read, design, and create plans for a building of their dreams. These skills can be transferred to real-life applications in mathematics, design, engineering, agriculture, and more.
