Introduction

Please see the Capstone Presentation for basic information regarding the Senior Capstone Experience.

Overview

The Senior Capstone Booklet is available for printing.

The Senior Capstone experience allows seniors to exit the classroom to engage in real-world experience for an internship, a service learning project and/or a research project.  The capstone requires students to devote four hours a day, five days a week, for twelve weeks for a total of 250 hours or some similar combination of hours.  Two high school credits will be earned for this course.  The Senior Capstone Experience is a mandatory requirement for high school graduation.  There are many reasons for an experience such as this:

·     The experience connects the “Why?” of many skills and concepts learned

·     Students experience hands-on, practical applications in a real-world setting

·     Students make important connections for summer jobs and college internships

·     They get a break from the regular school schedule and still get to participate in co-curricular activities

·     Try on a career and see if it fits

·     Bring the high school career to a meaningful conclusion

·     Can demonstrate development of soft skills necessary to be successful in the work force

There are four ways students will be accountable for this project:

1. Students must submit an approved project proposal, this form, (approved by both the Capstone Supervisor and the Capstone Advisor from Global Impact) prior to starting the experience.

2. The Capstone Supervisor (boss) will complete an Intern Evaluation. The Capstone Advisor will make at least one visit to the location of the experience. If multiple site locations are used each Capstone Supervisor (boss) will complete an Intern Evaluation. Student does not need to be present for the visit.

3. At the end of the Capstone experience seniors will present their Capstone Experience before the junior Bio-research class to allow the juniors in the class to view several capstone experiences. During the presentation the seniors will

  • Show how they have met their goals.

  • Identify and describe their anchor experience.

  • Explain what they did.

  • Show their portfolio.

  • Solve a solution on the amount of money they saved through College Credit Plus using Clark State’s fees and tuition and cost of books.

  • Complete a calculation on the amount of money saved at the institution they plan on attending after high school.

  • If the students had paid employment reflect on the amount of money they earned as well as the amount of money they saved.

  • Reflect on “Be Innovative, Be Heard, Be You!” and what it means personally

  • Explain future plans

  • What three activities they participated in while at Global Impact that had the biggest positive impact on them.

4. Explain what are they most nervous about as they take their next steps whether that be further education or a job. All work, research and/or volunteer hours and wages (if applicable), pictures, activities, should be recorded online in the AET (Agricultural Experience Tracker).

To pass this course you must complete the following.

1.     Complete 250 total hours from all volunteer and/ or paid employment from June 1 to April 1 of your Senior year.

2.     Fill out the Project/Experience Manager (SAE) in the AET for each Capstone.

3.     Journal all of your hours in the AET (Weekly or Bi-weekly) and your paychecks if applicable for each Capstone. Note: Cannot count any time before June 1 of your Senior year.

4.     Your Capstone Advisor must be able to visit with your Supervisor  and the Supervisor must fill out an evaluation form on you for each Capstone

5.     Capstone Booklet filled out and turned in for each experience
