Yesterday, students from Global Impact embarked on a field trip to two local parks. Students traveled to Snyder Park and to Springfield Promise Garden, not just to learn more about the content being discussed in their environmental science, physical science and chemistry classes, but also to actively contribute to their community through service work. The educational focus of the day was to learn about local ecosystems, with an emphasis on invasive species and local native species. Students also assessed various environmental factors such as soil quality.

Led by volunteers of the Clark County Master Gardeners, students learned more about the local community gardens and their impact on the area. The Gardeners expressed to the students the value of having green space within the city of Springfield and shared that over 8,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables have been harvested and donated to the community. The Gardeners also spoke on the topic of native vs. invasive species during their tour of Snyder Park. Through the dedication of the Clark County Master Gardeners and the hard work of Global Impact students, much progress was made towards the restoration of each parks biodiversity and the beautification of these public green spaces within the city.
