Congratulations to GISA Senior, Abby Yarnell, for being chosen to receive the second annual Waklatsi Service Scholarship.

This message below is from Kordell Waklatsi, a 2017 GISA graduate, who is the namesake and head of the Waklatsi Foundation. His foundation does many things for the community including awarding the Waklatsi Service Scholarship each year to a deserving high school senior.

“The Global Impact STEM Academy embeds a heart of service in all of its students. STEM has had a significant impact on my personal life. Upon graduating from Global Impact in 2017, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. I served 4 years on active duty. Upon leaving active duty, I wanted to find a way to continue to serve. I had the opportunity to serve my country, and I decided I wanted to now serve my community. I now have the honor to serve the citizens of Clark County as a Deputy Sheriff. I have the unique privilege of interacting with today’s youth on a daily basis. This scholarship is for students that have demonstrated, over the past 4 years, their dedication to serving their community. I encourage all students that meet the requirements to apply. You have given to your community, and as a reward, I want to give back to you. One student will be awarded $1000. The student may spend the money as they wish. The student will be selected by the committee composed of myself and select GISA staff members. ”
